Wrexham Swimming Baths

This is my favourite building in Wrexham. I used to go here alot as a kid and I was always really in love with the shape of the building. The shape of the roof reminds me of a diver in mid-air or the shape of a swimmers arms as they swim butterfly stroke. A long time on and the building is still amazing, just a bit older and more dog-eared in places. Wrexham baths were described on their opening in 1970 as "hyperbolic, parabolic and diabolic". The building required a £4.1m overhaul in 1997, but is now a locally admired landmark. The building has a hyperbolic paraboloid roof , of which, it is said, that there are only two in Europe. I am yet to discover who the architect was who designed the building. Wrexham's first proper swimming baths were on Tuttle Street. Many local people have fond memories of the baths. They were ahead of their time environmentally because the town's incinerator created the heat to keep the water warm.

The Botanical Gardens in Oxford - A Perfectly Colourful Day Out

When I was in Uni at Oxford Brookes I used to love walking down the hill to the Botanical Gardens to wander around the green houses and take in the colour and shapes of the plants. Luckily because I was a student I didn't have to pay to get in but I think it is only £5 per person for a day ticket anyway. Here are some photographs I took last time I was there. I really need to visit it again soon to have a proper look at the collections and glass houses. Maybe this time I will take a sketch book, a camera and a picnic. I think that my favourites were the Cacti and the Tropical Jungle plants. The gardens outside are perfect for a picnic and their seasonal flower beds are good reminders of what we should all being doing at home in our own gardens. Southern Comfort and a few of my favourite books...

I say that these are a few of my favourite books loosely as some of them I am yet to read. This is also one of my favourite drinks, Southern Comfort, in a heavy whisky tumbler, straight up. I haven't had a drink of this for ages, maybe I should. It's a drink that makes me laugh and become as talkative as I was when I was a teenager in school. You can't talk and read a book at the same time though unless you are reading out loud, then you are kind of talking in a reading sort of way. Anyway. I digress. Some of my favourite books are below in this photograph. that I took in my kitchen a couple of years ago. The books were piled there because I don't think we had long moved in and I had to get rid of my big bookcase because it didn't fit into my little house. My little house is lovely by the way.
